Wynonna Judd apparently - no, make that surely - didn’t share Taylor Swift’s happiness for her win as Country Music Awards 2009’s Entertainer of the Year.
Judd reportedly said “it’s much too soon” for Swift to win such a top honor, comparing it to her own fight for stardom where “Mom [Naomi Judd] and I rode in a car for the first year of our career to visit radio stations. There was a making of the star, there was a rising up, and the fans with us.” Judd added, “Now it’s over coffee breaks, the success, almost. It’s like the girl who wins an Oscar and she’s under 20. What do you do from here?”
I was appalled at this. Sure Judd is a huge country star, and yes everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But surely one can afford to be mature enough to accept others’ success?
So Taylor Swift is young; what’s wrong with that?
So Judd thinks she had a tougher time back then. Does she even know Swift’s journey to be able to compare it like that?
Doesn’t everyone have difficulties, setbacks, and other hindrances in reaching their dream? Even American Idol winners don’t have it easy. Everything is hard work.
So it’s really not fair that Judd undermines Swift’s effort and ability. I’m sure Judd and Swift have, and are still working their bottoms off. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be where they are today. Besides, I’m sure the entertainment industry is tough, tough, tough. Lots of great singers, actors, etc. never even break the industry. And if you don’t have what it takes, well you just can’t survive.
Taylor Swift plays her own music, writes original songs - all of the songs on her album are written solely, or co-written by her! - and has a great voice. She is definitely talented enough. And the people who decide at the CMAs are certainly no fools when they chose Taylor Swift as the winner.
If Wynonna Judd thinks she’s better than Swift, then prove it - don’t just put others down. For me, that just shows her insecurity. Why does she even have to criticize for nothing? She’d be better off saving the world or something. Grow up and move on, Wynonna.
