This article talks about Hollywood’s supposedly have a double-standard regarding teens’ half-nudity in the media. Miley Cyrus last year was photographed by Vanity Fair wrapped in a sheet implying she wasn’t wearing anything underneath, and it caused a huge uproar with critics saying it was inappropriate. Now it’s Taylor Lautner’s turn to have his (perfectly muscled, six-pack heavenly) half-naked body plastered all over the media and no one bats an eyelid.

In my humble opinion, I don’t see anything double-standard about this. To begin with, Miley Cyrus’ case never bothered me. Yes, she was a minor but she did it with her parents’ consent and she wasn’t even like full-frontal nude or whatever. It’s not like she went to Playboy! I see the photo spread as art, especially since it was taken by famous esteemed photographer Annie Leibovitz.

Now in Taylor Lautner’s case, it’s completely different from Miley Cyrus’ photos. His pics are from the New Moon movie! They’re totally for the purpose, and in the context of a particular job, which is of course the Twilight Saga. Author Stephenie Meyer clearly writes that ever since Jacob and the wolf pack’s transformation, they spent a lot of time only in shorts because it was more convenient, seeing as their clothes were always ruined when they transformed. So, it’s not like Taylor approached the producer asking to show off his body or vice versa (not that Miley did that either) when it’s not necessary.

And if then the production house or the media exploits these movie stills? Well it’s not Taylor’s fault either, or Hollywood’s for that matter. Anyone in the world, if they have something like what New Moon production has would most likely do the same thing. Taylor and his photos cause a stir, which is what they’re looking for to garner more publicity for the movie. Sure one might say “New Moon doesn’t need any more publicity! It’s already in our faces practically 24/7!” but still, a little more fame wouldn’t hurt.

I’m not saying what’s right or what’s wrong. But this, for me, is a simple human trait.
