Continuing on Marilyn Monroe’s birthday, a search at Trending Topics on Twitter yesterday revealed some quotes from her. Here are my favourites: “Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world.” “It’s better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.” “A wise girl kisses but doesn’t love, listens but doesn’t believe, and...

friends
There are times in life when your friend is no longer your friend. When you can’t count on them to give you support. When you can’t guarantee that they will be there. When you can’t call them in your time of need. At first you hate it. You’re disappointed at your friend, frustrated with yourself, and blame the situation. You try so hard to understand it, to “fix...

"Tapanuli Selatan marganya apa?"
Hari ini gw menerima telepon dari sebuah perusahaan penyedia jasa catering & dekorasi. Gw memang mengontak dia beberapa hari lalu, menanyakan soal catering.
Me: "Halo?"
Caterer/decorator: "Mbak, Tapanuli Selatannya marganya apa ya?
Me: "Ini dengan siapa ya?"
Caterer/decorator: "XX mbak, dari YYY [catering/decor company name]."
Me: "Oh iya mbak, gimana?" :D
Caterer/decorator: "Iya mbak, Tapanuli Selatannya marganya apa?"
* I'm starting to think whether this is a prank, or a radio quiz *
Me: "Hah? Tapanuli Selatan.. maksudnya?"
Caterer/decorator: "Ini dengan mbak A kan, yang mau bikin acara di B?"
Me: "Iya mbak, tapi aku gak pernah pesen Tapanuli Selatan. Kaya'nya salah deh.."
Caterer/decorator: "Oh gitu ya.. Kalo mbak kemarin apa, nasional ya?"
Me: "Er.. ini yang mana mbak, menu ya?"
Caterer/decorator: "Bukan, ini yang dekor."
Me: "Oh.. bukan aku mbak. Kemarin ini aku cuma nanya tentang catering, bukan dekornya."
Caterer/decorator: "..."

If your heart’s not in it for real, please don’t try to change what you don’t feel … ‘Cause I would give the whole world for you, anything you ask of me, I’d do. But I won’t ask you to stay, I’d rather walk away. … - If You Heart’s Not in It by Westlife Am just feeling melancholic right now.

Apple may be a snob, but not here
Servicing business doesn’t get a great rep in this world, and that’s probably one of the reasons why many of the people working in the business don’t put a lot of passion into it. Or maybe they’re just not the right for the job. So I absolutely love it when customer service people go out of their way, or give excellent personalised service. Like the one I received from...

I wonder how many people fall for the “sugar-free” claim on food packaging? If they look closely at the ingredients list, chances are the food contains artificial SWEETENER - which, as far as I’m concerned is more dangerous than simply sugar. Besides, part of the problem is the calories. Even if your food is made with natural, alternative sweetener (honey, for example)...

Now this is what you call acting! With Xavier and Dakota on their heels, no wonder the Cullens are running for their lives — not that they have concern for, um, living… seeing as they’re not humans. Three cheers for Jodelle Ferland as Bree!

I never understand why a coven of powerful vampires like the Cullens have to get so worked up over a gloomy mortal with bad acting. Is it just me, or Carlisle has gotten so much paler here?

Er.. what’s Paul doing? Brushing his teeth? Bella looks like she hasn’t combed her hair in days, and Leah looks like she hasn’t washed hers in weeks. Jacob is sooo sweet! But I honestly think this scene only functions to show off all the wolf-boys in their shirtless glory. Their levels of fitness vary, but they’ve all been paid so… gotta appear as a pack! *LOL*

This is quite a cool love-triangle scene, but all that just for kissing Bella? Bah.

Well… I’m sad to say that Jacob looks like he’s just washed his hair and hasn’t dried it properly. Edward looks mean! And he’s not supposed to be mean, he’s just worried and overprotective of Bella. Meanwhile Bella doesn’t seem to treat Jacob as someone who is supposedly her best friend. Which bugs me. Because she doesn’t appear like she’s...

Eclipsing right now.
I don’t hate Twilight, really. I don’t particularly LOVE it either. But with the premier of the latest installment Eclipse right here right now (in the U.S. at least), I decided to do a little celebration in Jacob’s return to the big screen - my sole reason for occasionally dipping into the world of sparkling undead - six clips which I think are some of the newest ones starting...

Taylor-ed style for men →
I found this cool blog, Wearability the other day. It’s a fashion blog and talks about how fashion should be wearable, besides being of course stylish. I have to be honest, I didn’t read it cover to cover (or more precisely, entry to entry) and had enough fun looking at the pictures. If you look at the Tags column on the right, they have a tag on Men’s Fashion. I LOVE...

A dictionary's definition of Go Green
Today I downloaded WordWeb, a free dictionary application for my laptop and had the most unique terms and conditions of use I’ve encountered yet. It says that we can use the free version forever, so long as we don’t take more than 2 flights a year. Intrigued, I clicked on the licensing info to find out more: ——- WordWeb free version may be used indefinitely only by...

More Love for 'So You Think You Can Dance'!
It’s no secret that I love So You Think You Can Dance. And I absolutely adore Season 6 more than any other previous seasons. The Top 20 cast is amazing, the choreographers have grown even more, the choreography is more creative and amazing, and the production crew has finally figured out how to maximise the use of the large Kodak Theater to create great performances. Have I mentioned that I...

Homemade? Yeah, right.
If something is stamped as ‘homemade’, how many people actually believe that? Not everything is truly what it says it is of course. Case in point: KFC’s new Brownie Sundae. It claims to contain homemade brownies, hoping to attract people buying loveable goodies full of homely warmth and a motherly love, I guess. But you have to wonder: whose home was the brownies made in?  ...

Today I received an e-mail that said: “As the clocks have changed to summer time in Europe, please could I ask…..” It was actually a job request, but as soon as I read those first few words my head went sailing far, far away into imagination. Of summer dresses, French architecture, and strolling in a city square - which would be full of tourists but I wouldn’t care...

I think everyone must have heard about the new Robert Pattinson’s movie “Remember Me”. Early expectations for it were low, as the general public were skeptical whether Pattinson could really act. Perhaps it wasn’t surprising then when the movie came out, the reviews were just so-so. Of course, reviews should be taken with a pinch of salt. I believe that we can watch...

this is why people cheat
Mother: “I thought you were gonna stop eating once you’ve brushed your teeth!” 1st daughter: (in the middle of munching her second helping of chocolate bar) “Right. I forgot.” Mother and sister: “How could you forgot that you’ve brushed your teeth?” 1st daughter: “I didn’t forget the brushing, I forgot the commitment.”

when regretting that snack..
I wonder if walking can burn off the calories contained in a medium-sized packet of crisps. Let’s do the (unscientifically grosstimate) math. 100 grams of potato crisps = 490 calories 60 minutes of brisk walking for 98 lbs (my weight) = 194 calories. Not so much, eh.. But don’t feel bad just yet! Doing it under the blistering heat of noon, where the sun is right on top of your...

only in a shameless world
Such is the power of the Twilight fame, that even Emily Bronthe has to enlist its help to promote Wuthering Heights. But also, such is the shameless promotional machine that is Twilight that Emily Bronthe had to be forced to have her timeless classic stamped with a “Bella & Edward’s Favourite Book”. Poor Emily.

Whatever Wynonna Judd, grow up.
Wynonna Judd apparently - no, make that surely - didn’t share Taylor Swift’s happiness for her win as Country Music Awards 2009’s Entertainer of the Year. Judd reportedly said “it’s much too soon” for Swift to win such a top honor, comparing it to her own fight for stardom where “Mom [Naomi Judd] and I rode in a car for the first year of our career to...

What’s worse than standing in a 15-person line for an hour when you’re only buying one item in your hands? Standing in a slow-moving, 15-person line for an hour behind a fussy old lady bags of purchase when you’re only buying ONE single item. Where the lady demands a price recheck for her EVERY item, paying with a card that takes even longer to process. AND THEN at the end the...

Hollywood's double standard? I think not →
This article talks about Hollywood’s supposedly have a double-standard regarding teens’ half-nudity in the media. Miley Cyrus last year was photographed by Vanity Fair wrapped in a sheet implying she wasn’t wearing anything underneath, and it caused a huge uproar with critics saying it was inappropriate. Now it’s Taylor Lautner’s turn to have his (perfectly muscled,...

Today I was surprised to see my father brought home the latest copy of Men’s Health (MH). It’s not his kind of magazine. My dad is a sports fanatic, but isn’t big on health issues. things people do when there's an earthquake
Why do people rush home when there’s an earthquake? I’m saying this as it applies in Jakarta, where we are far from the source point so effects are very minimal. I swear, traffic is MAD yesterday evening as I was leaving office. I wasn’t early - during fasting month my office hours are reduced to 8.30 to 4 - and I found the streets clogged everywhere! It’s never like...

A love triangle like this
There’s got to be no dilemma as heavenly as having to choose between Edward and Jacob. One is a super-gentleman, patient, ever-protecting, “always does what he says” type of guy. Someone you can’t live without and makes you blissfully dizzy whenever he’s around. In short: he’s a drug. The other one is super manly, always up for fun and adventures, and with a...
